Minutes: Rip Van Winkle Hikers May 19, 2003 Meeting called to order at 7:05 p.m. by President Bob Saturn. Minutes of the March 24, 2003 meeting were read and approved. Minutes of the May 8, 2003 partial Executive Board meeting were read and approved. Guests: Lynette Seawald, Lanny Walters Treasurer's Report Opening Balance: $962.49 Expenses: $36.36 Income: $75.00 Present Balance: $1001.13 Membership: Sally Colclough reported that there were 112 members (23 novice, 45 intermediate and 44 advanced.) Correspondence: Don and Glenn Dobbs had their picture in the Catskill Center News. They were shown doing trail maintenance. Greenway Representative: Because Gil Hales is very involved with the Greenway, it was unanimously agreed that he would act as our liaison with the Greenway. Read the kudos to the Club published by Peter Senterman in his NY NJ Trail Maintainers Newsletter. Completed Hikes The Group and Hike Leaders reported on completed hikes. Trail Maintenance Report: No official report. An unofficial report about one of the trail maintenance hikes was given. Reminder: Last maintenance hike -- Friday, May 23, 2003. Committee Reports: Banquet Committee: Roger Brandt announced the final arrangements (and provided the flyers) for the July 26th banquet. He reminded club members to make sure they put their names on the mail-in form if they were going to use the facilities at Williams Lake during the day Roger also described the planned orienteering workshop to be held at 1:00 that day. Fall Weekend: Rick Smith, having done a lot of research on places, dates, and prices, presented club members with several choices for the Fall Weekend. Discussion ensued. Conclusion: Because no one could decide among the various options, Rick was asked to send out an e-mail to club members in order to get greater input on dates and prices. Librarian: The library was officially handed over to our new Librarian Elaine Hencke. Fred Backhus has donated two new books to the Library. Rambles: Bob Saturn read Hanna Rioux's e-mail indicating that North Point is the hike scheduled to be led by the Club for the Rambles. Sunshine: Pat Kramer's e-mailed report was read. She indicated that there was one marriage (Pat Fitzsimmons to Cheryl Cooper) and two deaths of parents (Connie Sciutto's mother and Pat Fitzsimmon's father). Hike Schedules: Schedules for June/July were passed out and discussed. The dates for planning upcoming hikes were announced. Old Business: 1. Len Sperl Plaque: President Saturn reported that the Plaque (made by Pat Fitzsimmons) was presented to Charlotte Sperl by Pat Fitzsimmons, Susan Puretz, and Bob Saturn. She was very impressed with it and promised to inform the club as to its final resting place. 2. Club Liability Bob Stinemire reported that he had received no further correspondence on this topic. 3. Esopus Creek Conservancy: Susan Bolitzer gave an update on the status of the Conservancy and described the Art On The Esopus event that happened on the May 3-4th weekend. The opening on May 17th attracted more than 100 people and the final auction will be held June 14th, 2003. New Business: 1. Saugerties Hudson River Partnership, Inc. Lanny Walter presented information on the status of the Partnership and its goal of getting more people relating to the River/and the area. The Partnership is responsible for the development of the three current bike trails in Saugerties. He invited the Club and/or any interested individuals to get involved with the Partnership. Contact him at: 246-1959. 2. The Gunks A request was made by the Save the Ridge Coalition for help. No action taken by the Club. 3. Labeling Hikes with Levels/descriptions Discussion on this topic again ended up the same as previous discussions - leave it as is! If club members are not sure about how easy/strenuous a hike may be - contact the leader Announcements: 1. The Extended Post Card Susan Bolitzer passed around a post card showing (with labels) the mountains surrounding the Ashokan Reservoir. They can be purchased at Freedom Hair Stylists on Main Street.
