Trail Maintenance
in the
Northeast Catskills Region

Trail Maintenance:

There are two hiking trails in the Catskill Mountains that are maintained by the Rip Van Winkle Hikers. They are the Long Path from Platte Clove Road to Palenville and, in the Black Dome Section, the trail to Thomas Cole Mt. from Barnum Road.

The trails are usually maintained in three separate maintenance hikes. The Long Path obligation is divided into two parts (Platte Clove Mountain Road to past the Snowmobile trail and then the Snowmobile trail junction to Palenville –which also includes the side trail to Poet’s Ledge.

The April/May 2005 maintenance hikes have been successfully completed and the September/October 2005 ones have not yet been scheduled. Volunteers are sought to join the maintenance teams.

**

See the Hike Schedule for the Spring/Summer maintentance hikes.

The meeting place for all maintenance hikes (unless otherwise announced) is at the rear of the Sawyer Savings Bank parking lot, 87 Market Street, Saugerties.
